John 8:24 "If ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins"
Deer hunting season 2007 ends tommorrow for me. Monday is actually the last day of muzzleloading in NYS, but for me it ends tommorrow. I will once again venture forth with my trusty TC Encore 209/50 loaded with two 50 grain pyrodex pellets and a TC yellow tipped 250 grain Shockwave saboted bullet.
The weather has certainly not cooperated the past couple of weeks with the most snow accumulation we have had this early, in several seasons. The last few years it seems we have either had a green Christmas or just a dusting of snow on the ground. Where I hunt in Madison county we had 6-11" on opening day back in Nov and we have accumulated more since then. Sunday's prediction is for a possible NorEaster to come in, and perhaps drop another 6" to maybe a foot or more in some areas. We just had a storm yesterday here in Cortland county dropping 4 to 8" during the day.
I have had reports of rutting activity still going on in the area (28 days after the peak of the 1st rut which was apprx 11/16) puts tommorrow into the second rut. My own thinking is that with the cold and snow, the deer are concentrating more on food sources right now and last Saturday morning I caught a 6 pointer feeding in a meadow at 10:45AM in the morning which sort of bears this out.
In any event, I will report my good fortune, or lack of same, tommorrow on this BLOG. Hope springs eternal and it is a cinch I cannot shoot one while Christmas shopping or watching TV in my living room. Dan http://www.gunsandoptics.com/
