Latest NYS rifle counties for deer

Matthew 7:1-2 KJV "Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you again".

How things have changed and are changing since I was a 16 year old kid hunting Madison county with a smoothbore 12 ga shotgun with just a front bead for sights and shooting foster slugs.

Latest information I have available shows the southern zone counties allowing rifle hunting for whitetails in NYS as follows:

Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chennango, Columbia, Delaware, Fulton, Greene, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Orange, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Washington, Saratoga, Tioga, portion of Broome East of the Susquehanna River, Chemung, Yates, Stuben and a portion of Chautauqua.

These are in addition to the traditional Northern Zone counties where rifle hunting has previously been allowed.

I for one am in favor of this. Statistics have pretty much borne out that rifle hunting is no more dangerous than being restricted to shotgun only.

My hopes are that Madison county will be eventually added to the list. We are surrounded now by 3 counties allowing rifle hunting.
