Guess I am hooked on this bear hunting thing lately, and wanted to share an article that I DID NOT write. Even though I did not write the article I agree whole heartedly with its content. The article is entitled "Cartridges And Bullets For Black Bear" and was written back on June 12th, 2007 by Joe Riekers.
I think the article is well written and informative from a man who has been there and done that. It is not long on theory and light on facts. In fact, it is the opposite with lots of useful, proven information along with a lot of info on various bullet types and why one is more effective than another.
In essence Joe is a big fan of premium and hard cast bullets for bear over bait. He gives good insight on shot placement, and shooting from a treestand which involves not only shot placement but the steep angle's effect on the bullet's path.
All in all, I give this article ***** (5 stars) and I think it is a good read. The info is as valid today as it was back in 2007 when it was written.
ENJOY and I would like some feedback or comments on real world bear hunts, caliber and bullet used, whether factory or hand loads and results. Did the bullet perform as anticipated, or did it fail. Did you get a bear or miss the bear or hit it and lost it anyway due to poor bullet performance etc.
I am interested in real world scenarios of what worked and what didn't and why.
