I then thoroughly cleaned the bore, bolt etc. and did NOT apply any oil to the inside of the bore. I made sure it was clean and dry. I took (3) loads to the gun club with me this morning. Winchester Power Points, Federal Power Shoks and Remington Core Lokts, all in 150 grain persuasion.
I placed the target at exactly 100 yards, and fired one round of the Winchester 150 grain load. I moved the scope two clicks to the right and fired two shots for each load at the 100 yard mark off the bench. From previous shooting time, I knew the gun would be in the black with just about any load in my safe from the 150 grain on up through the 180 grains.
The top left target is the Winchester's and the top right is the Federal Power Shoks. Both loads are almost identical in both group size and shot placement. Both loads are 5/16 inch center to center and about 1 1/4 inches high. Just about perfect for a gun that probably will not see any shots beyond 150 yards, and likely inside of 100 yards.
The bottom left group was made by the Remington Core Lokts and measures 1 inch center to center and 1.5 inches high.
The Federal's and the Winchester's are two peas in a pod and are completely interchangeable. The Remington's shoot more than adequate enough to thread the needle through brush to take a clean shot at a buck.
The Savage Weather Warrior with the accu trigger is probably the most accurate rifle in my possession, and handles like a dream besides. It is easy to carry, comes into shooting position quickly and hits hard.
I always clean my guns every time I take them to the range, however it normally consists of running a couple solvent based patches down the bore followed by one or two dry patches and then a lightly oiled patch with a product called "Clenzoil" available from E. Arthur Brown Co.
Occasionally I guess it pays to do a through cleaning, and from now on when I go hunting, I will run a dry patch or two through the bore before heading for the woods. I like to use the clenzoil patches when I put it away, but apparently it shoots much tighter with a clean dry bore.
No one asked, however NO it is not for sale. If you are in the market for a new deer, black bear, wild hog, caribou, moose rifles, you can't go wrong with the Savage Weather Warrior in .308 Win. Dan
